Wellness Strategies to Incorporate Into Your Routine
If there is anything that we have been trying to get a handle on during this pandemic, it is our mental health. Being stuck inside for the vast majority of the day made our brains feel either fuzzy or on fire most days and it came to a point where we either had to tackle our mental health head on or let our anxieties run our life. We obviously chose the first option and have been doing things a bit differently since the beginning of quarantine.
We also want to add a disclaimer that everyone is different and handles their emotions in their own ways. What has worked for us may or may not work for others, but we just wanted to write a candid piece about how we have dealt with anxiety and what continues to help us get through this tough time!
Activities that Have Helped:
Journaling
We highly suggest journaling to anyone who loves to write down their feelings or sometimes doesn’t know how to articulate what is happening in their heads. Writing our thoughts, feelings, and emotions down in a journal is extremely therapeutic and can help your brain flow throughout the day. There are also hundreds of writing prompts online that can help you get started on your journaling journey!
Yoga and Exercise
Moving your body has been proven to help boost not just your metabolism but your mood as well! If you can get out for at least 30 minutes a day, we encourage you to do so. We all have our different forms of exercise that we love (Debbie loves walking, Taylor loves yoga, and Hannah loves riding her Peloton bike) so do whatever your body responds to positively!
Art
Art is a great way to express how your feeling and is also extremely therapeutic! There are so many different forms of art that you can get into, from sketching to photography to acrylic painting (watercolor painting is our personal favorite)! So grab your easels, paint brushes, and get your Bob Ross on!
Sound Bath Meditation
Sound bath meditation is essentially just what it sounds like- a meditative practice where you basically “bathe” in surrounding sound. It is used to relax and de-stress your mind and the best part about it is you can find a number of sound bath videos free on Youtube! After a long day of work, we love being able to wind down to the soothing sounds of a sound bath. ‘
Apps and Podcasts for Stress Management:
Headspace is an app designed for stress management and has hundreds of different meditations, workouts, and articles that help with whatever you are feeling. They even have a sleeping portion of the app that helps calm your mind before heading to bed. This is one of our favorite apps, and if you are currently unemployed, they are offering a free yearly subscription!
Another great app for stress and sleep management! Calm has different sections of the app (like Headspace) that help you navigate your feelings and emotions. If you have trouble sleeping at night, definitely try their Sleep Stories that are voiced by numerous celebrities including Eva Greene and Harry Styles.
This podcast is made up of different meditations that are meant to help guide you throughout your day and through any situation. Their episodes range from deep breathing exercises to soothing affirmations so you can achieve peace throughout the day.
The Digital Mindfulness Podcast
If you are looking for a podcast that touches on the topic of digital ethics, than this one if for you! This podcast does a great job of talking about how to be more mindful when it comes to digital consumerism and what actions we can take so that we are not always enveloped in our phones or computers!
Influencers:
Also known as Freckled Foodie, this gal is at the forefront of challenging the status quo when it comes to mental health awareness. As her nickname suggests, her Instagram includes an arsenal of recipes to fuel that strong and capable body of yours, but Rogers also shares her days and her daily struggles with anxiety. The conversations she engages in reveals her authentic desire to not only accept the raw emotions that she has, but to challenge herself and her followers to grow from their own experiences. She asks the hard questions that in turn forces others to ask themselves the same. Rogers intertwines her being and her experiences to who she wants to be, and that pursuit of healing is absolutely magical!
p.s. She is also the host of Freckled Foodie & Friends Podcast, so be sure to check it out!
