How to Plan a Successful Content Day
At Peachy Keen Social, planning a content day is one of the things we do best! We love getting inspired for upcoming shoots by creating mood boards, purchasing props, and actively envisioning what we plan to get out of the day! If you have ever wanted to take a creative idea and make it into something wonderful, follow along as we tell you our step-by-step process on how to plan a successful content day!
1.) Mood Board Your Creative Vision
Curating a mood board is one of our favorite things to do when it comes to getting inspired for future shoots. Pinterest is one of the main sites we use, and we love it because it is a haven for everything and anything creative! We make Pinterest boards every time we have a scheduled shoot so that we can actively see what poses/lighting/props/garments are needed, and can be as prepared as possible in the days leading up to the big day. Pinterest is a creative world that can be fun to get lost in and is super helpful when you are coming up with ideas for future projects!
2.) Make a List of What You Need
After we have made Pinterest boards and have finalized an idea, both in our minds and on paper, we then analyze what needs to be brought to the shoot. Do we need fabric and trinkets for a flat lay? What kind of lighting is needed if we are shooting portrait’s in the middle of the day? Does the model need multiple outfits or just one? There are a number of questions we ask ourselves before settling on what needs to be bought and brought to the shoot. Lists are a great way to stay focused on what is needed and what can stay at home.
3.) Pick a Day to Shop for Props & Equipment
We usually go shopping for props and equipment a few days before our shoot so that we know how to use the items when it comes time to shoot. This is also a fun activity and a great way to get pumped up for the future project! You can typically find the Peachy Keen team shop for props at consignment and vintage stores because they are offer unique pieces with character that can be used over and over again! One of our favorite vintage shops we regularly browse is the Redlands Galleria in Redlands! This 3-story antique shop is filled with beautiful and interesting pieces that are equally great for creative projects and regular home decor! If thrifting really isn’t your vibe, that’s ok! We highly suggest shopping at small businesses when buying props or equipment, but also understand that sometimes the best places to go for these things are World Market, Target, and stores alike!
4.) Get Your Equipment Ready and Have Fun!
So we made a mood board, got organized with our equipment list, and bought our props. What’s next? Now it’s time to gather what we’ve bought, test out our equipment to make sure it works, and get ready for the shoot! There is something so exciting about getting all of our accessories ready the night before a shoot and then finally getting to utilize them the day of! The most rewarding thing about content days is when everything plays out perfectly. It always puts a huge smile on our faces when we look at the photos and see all of our hard work come to fruition!
We hope that this little step-by-step guide helps you in your future projects and gets you excited to create! If you are curious to see some of the content work we have done, feel free to follow us on Instagram and take a look at our Case Studies page!
